One of the worst winters has come and hopefully we've had the last of it. Out here in the West Coast we are not used to the amount of snow that have fallen in our fair city the last couple of weeks. It was the first time that all of Canada had a White Christmas and also that Vancouver had the most snowfall among the Canadian cities.
'The most recent White Christmas occurred in 2008 after weeks of record breaking cold temperatures and four consecutive snow storms left over 60 cm of snow on the ground across Metro Vancouver. New snow also accumulated on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day giving it the title for Canada's whitest Christmas in 2008 with 41 cm on ground (48cm at one point on Christmas Eve)'- Wiki
Our normal winters usually consist of a day or two of a "light dusting" of snow. Then a couple days later there would be rain and then all the snow would melt away. But this time around the snow stayed for weeks. People of Vancouver are not used to driving in these conditions. Many cars got stuck especially on the side streets ( I was one of them). There was so much snow, that my car was totally covered and cannot be seen. (picture to come)
Not everyone disliked the snow, the children appreciated the snow days, tobogganing down the sides of hills and the snowboarders and skiers loved the snowfall up in the mountains!
Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow. All that shoveling was hard work!
